Bison Baby Nursery Update

Bison Baby Nursery Update

Hey y’all!

Happy spring! It has been b-e-a-utiful here in PA lately, which means I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning, rearranging, and redecorating. Most recently, H’s room got a makeover and I am loving it! He still has his bison theme, but his room seems a little less “baby-ish.” His makeover also allows us to open his window to let that amazing fresh air in, and seems to provide a bit more room. I’m also happy to report that while he has a few different decor items in his room, I did not buy him anything new! I used a few pieces from around the house and took some out of his storage boxes downstairs, but mainly I just moved things around including wall decor (using the same screws so I didn’t have to deal with more holes). Check out the end result!

Xoxo,

Nik

Hello mama, dada, fellow reader, or loved one who is forced to read the same three books all day long-I’m glad you found this post!

H has been OBSESSED with books since before he could sit up on his own. Being a (former) teacher, and lover of reading myself, his obsession makes me thrilled! I’ve compiled a list of H’s current favorites as well as some of his favorites in the past.

Enjoy! And be sure to read the end of my post for some benefits of reading to your sweet babe(s)!

Peek-a-Bruce is such a fun book for little ones! Bruce attempts to hide from adorable geese the entire story, but doesn’t do a great job at it! Parts of Bruce, like his nose, can be found peeking out of his hiding spots. H has so much fun “finding” Bruce on every page!

H has really been into Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle books recently! Babes will love this classic filled with repetition and animals!

This is the other Eric Carle book H has been having us read over and over. He loves pointing to the letters and animals. This book has beautiful illustrations and is great for learning letters and animals!

H LOVES books with sounds and flaps; he also love roaring like a dinosaur; so this book is perfect! Have fun roaring with your kiddo as you learn facts, flip flaps, and listen to dinosaur sounds!

Moo, Moo, Guess Who? is the cutest guessing/peek-a-boo book ever! It is filled with clues, animal sounds, giant lift the flaps, and beloved Mickey Mouse characters! I am not exaggerating when I say that I have this book memorized word for word!

As you can see from the cover, Hoppity Frog is a slide-and-seek book making it fun and interactive! H loves seeing the animals pop out and pushing them back in.

Lick! is the cutest book full of pull tabs, textures, and silly illustrations. It has H running around everywhere smacking his lips together!
Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb is a silly almost tongue twister book about monkeys doing different things-mainly drumming on drums; dum ditty, dum ditty, dum dum dum. It’s a fun read-aloud for both you and your babe(s)!
Backyard All Year is a touch, feel, and trace book all about what you can do in your backyard each season. It’s perfect for teaching about weather, seasons, and animals!
Oh, The Places You’ll Go is my favorite Dr. Seuss book of all time. It is the cheerer and motivator of all books. This sweet book is the baby version and does just as good of a job cheering and motivating as the real thing-plus it has flaps, slide tabs, spinning wheels, and fuzz. It’s a perfect baby shower or first birthday present.
We also love the Llama, Llama series, Never Touch a… series, and really any book that is interactive either with flaps, sounds, or different textures!
No matter the book, reading with your children is such an important thing and will only have positive outcomes. Not only will you build a better relationship with your child, but you will provide them with a foundation for a better relationship with reading. Studies have shown that reading five (simple) books a day to your child will allow them to enter kindergarten with about a MILLION more words than those who are not read to. In addition to having a more extensive vocabulary, reading to your child will also help them pick up reading skills quicker and easier.*
So, pick up a book (or 5), grab a blanket, get cozied up, and READ!

Nik

How I Manage a Clean and Organized House with a Toddler

Hey y’all! If you’re reading this, I can only assume you’re at your wits end with your house constantly being a mess. This was me for the LONGEST time! Before baby H, our house was immaculate mainly because we weren’t home that often and because

How to Destress as a Mama

WINE.

Coffee, until wine.

Hey mamas-

Finally something we can all relate to, and if you say you can’t, you’re lying! Sorry, Karen.

As a new(er) mama, I feel like I am constantly stressed. Sometimes it’s a good stress, like getting a million things done for a party I’m looking forward to, sometimes it’s stress I bring on myself by “overdoing” basically everything, and sometimes it’s not great stress that is out of my control like that dreaded sleep regression or when baby H is sick. The bottom line is, we as mamas need to destress-even when we don’t have time!

Recently I got into a rut where my stress relief was staying up until all hours of the night eating snacks in bed and watching “my” tv shows. This was my “me time” and not only did I feel like I deserved it, I NEEDED it. It wasn’t a great way to destress though (potato chip crumbs in bed, being exhausted the next day and everyday after, and being unproductive, which stressed me out further). I finally found a few ways to destress that made me feel GOOD, and I’m here to share them with you! Hopefully every type of mama finds something that will help!

  1. Wine

All joking aside, I am a wine LOVER. Having a glass of wine with dinner or during baby H’s nap time helps me relax a little and makes me have a cheesy smile even if I’m cooking dinner, cleaning, cutting up H’s food, etc. all whilst enjoying. I’m personally a merlot kinda girl-but you do you girlfriend.

2.  Yoga (with my girl Adriene)

Beginner or expert, I can promise you will love Adriene. She has free yoga classes/sessions on her youtube channel, and she just has the best personality. If you don’t have a lot of time to spare, she has quick sessions to pick from and target area videos (think back and neck). I personally love her 30 days of yoga. And please know this is not an ad, she has no clue who I am. I am just a fan girl.

3.  Find a Hobby

This was hard for me because I struggle with feeling like I don’t have enough time to do things for me. I’m also home with baby H ALL DAY so I needed something I could start and stop without a lot of effort or clean up. I recently started hand embroidery and I love it! It is inexpensive, allows me to learn new things (which I love; must be the teacher in me), can be gifted (I love giving people presents), and it is minimal setup and clean up. If you have any type of sewing experience, you will be able to embroider. Just know youtube has your back, too! My most recent project was ordered from Amazon. You can use this link or click the picture below to check it out! It is a great for beginners!

4. Ban Your Cellphone (or at least social media)

WHHAAATTT?? I know that’s what most of you are saying-but at least I didn’t say exercise (insert wink emoji). Really though, many of us use our downtime, whether it be five minutes or thirty minutes, to peruse social media. I may be going out on a limb here, but I doubt checking out FB or Insta helps you in any way…Don’t use your phone for a few hours, and see what you can get into. I bet you’ll be less stressed!

5. Read a Book or Listen to Your Jam

If you have a good amount of time, read a book. If you don’t like books, read a magazine. I never feel stressed out when I’m wrapped up in the life of someone else while reading, especially if I have a cozy blanket and coffee (or wine).

If you don’t have more than a few minutes, crank up Lizzo and jam in the kitchen.

6. Clean

This could just be me, but nothing makes me feel better than a CLEAN house and nothing stresses me out more than an unorganized or dirty house. I’m being a little extreme here, but a clean house is a happy house.

7. Date Night

I’m pretty sure this is on every “destress” list, but in my case it is true. A lot of things changed after having baby H and it is so nice to go out with just Sam and “do what we used to” for a few hours. I know it’s easier said than done for some us because of time, money, babysitters, guilt, you get the point-but if you can do it-try!

We are all in this together mamas. As hard as it is, we need to find ways to stay happy and healthy for our partners and babes! And remember if all else fails, coffee and wine.

xoxo,

Nik
